Most sexual harassment claims come from these 3 industries
Sexual harassment occurs in all industries across Arizona and the United States, but you may face an elevated chance of being a victim of it if you work in certain fields. Data collected by the U.S. Equal Opportunity Employment Commission over 10 years reveals that you face a higher risk of experiencing sexual harassment when you make your living in a low-wage position.
Per the Washington Post, women make the majority of sexual harassment allegations across all industries. However, your risk of experiencing on-the-job sexual harassment is most severe if you work in one of the following fields.
Hospitality and foodservice
You may be more prone to experiencing sexual harassment if you work in the restaurant or food-service industries, or if you work in a different type of position where you rely on tips. More than 14% of sexual harassment claims filed between 2005 and 2015 came from the hospitality and food-service sector.
Retail
If you work in retail, you are slightly less at risk of experiencing sexual harassment than you would be in the restaurant and hospitality industries. Within the 10-year span studied, 13.44% of sexual harassment claims came from workers in retail settings.
Manufacturing
The third-highest number of sexual harassment claims filed between 2005 and 2015 came from the manufacturing sector. This may be due in part to the fact that you face a higher chance of sexual harassment as a female working in a male-dominated environment.
You have a right to speak out when you are a victim of sexual harassment. Neglecting to do so may lead to a host of associated problems, including depression and anxiety.
