Age Discrimination – Sometimes It’s Not About the Law and Just About Fairness

Sometimes legal folk (myself included) get bogged down about the technical elements of the law.  But when you get right down to it, I think a common sense approach guides our decisions pretty well.

This story reminded me of that.  Navy Seal (from Tucson) was rejected from a Fire Department job because of his age – 37.  This, even though he scored among the highest on the tests and is in great shape.  But most importantly, he served our country faithfully and honorably.  I know there are rules to “get around” giving him the job.  Seriously though – why wouldn’t; why shouldn’t we do the right thing here!

Thankfully, others agree and Fire Departments across the country are encouraging him to join them!
